Opening Speaking and Writing Responses
To open your saved Speaking files, double-click on the file. Speaking files can be opened by any standard audio program, such as QuickTime(tm) or Windows Media Player.

If the file does not open, then for Windows users, click Start Menu, and in the Programs list choose Accessories/Entertainment/Sound Recorder, and open the file from there. For Writing, open your word processor and open the file. Note that you may need to set the "Files of type" to "All" in order to see the file in the Open dialog box.

The name TOEIC Bridge incorporates the concept of a "bridge" to the TOEIC test. The TOEIC Bridge test was developed as a global standard with which to measure the English language proficiency of beginning and intermediate learners.

American Defense Secretary Robert Gates is in Beijing to discuss Chinese military growth1 that has led the United States to question China’s military plans. Mr. Gates plans to discuss defense issues with top military and civilian2 leaders during his three-day visit. Earlier, Mr. Gates said he did not consider China as a military threat3 to the United

States. But he expressed concern about an 18% increase in China’s military spending4 announced earlier this year. The increase is equal to 45 billion dollars.

A new report says the number of foreign students at colleges and universities in the United States increased three percent last year. This was the first notable1 increase since two thousand one.

American schools last fall had five hundred eighty-three thousand foreign students. The record2 is five hundred eighty-six thousand. That was set in two thousand two after many years of gains3. But after that the numbers fell.For the sixth year, India sent the most international students last fall, almost eighty-four thousand. That was up ten percent from the year before. China remained in second place, and South Korea was third.

Japan was fourth among the twenty leading senders of foreign students. But the number of Japanese fell sharply4 - nine percent.There were three percent drops from Indonesia and Kenya, the only African country in the top twenty last year. But there were notable increases from Saudi Arabia, Nepal and Vietnam. The number of Saudi students more than doubled, to nearly eight thousand.The leading area of study was business and management5. That was the choice for eighteen percent of foreign students last year. Second was engineering6.

Emergency workers in Bangladesh say they have reached the last area of the country ruined1 by a storm last week. The storm killed about 3,500 people and forced 4 million others from their homes. The military is flying helicopters and planes to bring badly needed food, medicines, shelters2, and clean water to victims. Aid officials say many

victims have lost everything and will need months to recover. They also warned that the number of death could increase greatly3 after all the victims in hard to reach areas are found. The World Bank has offered4 up to 250 million dollars in aid. The United Nations has offered almost 9 million dollars.
